How to connect to our server

To play nethack on our server, you only need two things: a terminal emulator and a telnet client.

When your terminal is up and running, start telnet nethack.unfoog.de and you're ready to explore The Dungeons of Doom.

If you're on a UNIXoid operating system, chances are very good that your terminal will work with the server out of the box. xterm, aterm, rxvt-unicode and konsole have been verified as being compatible.

Windows users might take a look at putty.

Here's an example screenshot for verifying that NetHack shows up in your terminal as intended:

For a good gaming experience, a white-on-black colorscheme and a minimum terminal size of 80x24 is recommended. Vertically larger terminals can be nice as soon as your inventory grows. If you are not oldschool enough to enjoy ASCII line drawing, you can use OPTIONS=DECgraphics with an UTF-8 or ISO-8859-* locale. NetHack uses bold/bright colors, so enabling those in your terminal is a good idea too.
